Welcome to Lumen Tool. By using this website and the lighting simulator, you agree to these Terms.

01About Lumen Tool

Lumen Tool is a free, browser-based portrait lighting simulator for photographers, videographers and anyone who works with light. It helps you plan light placement, contrast, colour temperature and portrait lighting patterns before setting up real lights.

Lumen Tool is still being developed. Some features may be incomplete, experimental or changed over time. The free tool is free to use. Lumen Tool Studio, the more extensive paid version, is a paid subscription.

02Website and tool use

You may use Lumen Tool to plan lighting setups for personal and commercial work. You are responsible for how you use the results.

You agree not to misuse the website or tool. This means you must not attempt to interfere with its security, availability or normal operation, access systems without permission, upload malicious code, scrape the site in a disruptive way, or use it for unlawful purposes.

03Your setups and content

A project is saved when you choose to save it: the tool writes a project file that you download to your own computer, and you load that file back in when you want to carry on. The setups you save sit inside that project. Studio's Archive is separate and keeps only the setups, comparisons and optional photos you explicitly send there. You can download one complete Archive backup, including its stored photos, and restore it later. The backup contains the resized Archive images, not original camera uploads.

You keep ownership of the setups you create. Lumen Tool does not claim ownership of your work.

04Product ownership

Lumen Tool owns the website, product design, interface, branding, software, text, structure and visual design created for the service, unless stated otherwise.

You may not copy, reproduce, resell, redistribute, reverse engineer or misuse any part of Lumen Tool without permission.

05No professional advice

Lumen Tool is a visual planning tool. It helps you understand direction, contrast and balance faster, but it does not replace a real camera test, a real studio setup or a light meter, and it does not provide professional advice. You remain responsible for your own decisions and results.

06Availability and changes

We aim to keep Lumen Tool useful, stable and available, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.

We may update, change, limit, suspend or discontinue any part of the website or tool as it develops.

07Accounts and signing in

The free tool works without an account. Lumen Tool Studio needs one, and that account is your email address: you ask for a sign-in code, we mail it to you, and typing it in signs you in. There is no password to remember or lose.

Signing in keeps you signed in on that device for a while. Keep your mailbox to yourself, because whoever can read your mail can sign in as you. Tell us at franck@lumentool.com if you think someone else got in.

One account is for one person. Sharing your sign-in so several people can use one subscription is not allowed, and we may end an account that does it.

08Subscriptions and payment

Studio is a subscription, monthly or yearly. Payment runs through Stripe, our payment provider. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach us; we only see who paid, which plan they are on and when it renews.

Prices are shown in your own currency, and that is what you are charged. In Europe that is nine euros a month, in the United States nine dollars, and everywhere else the same nine euros in local money. VAT or sales tax is worked out for your country during payment, and a business can enter its VAT number there.

A subscription renews by itself at the end of each period, at the price in force at the time, until you cancel. We will tell you beforehand if the price for your plan changes.

You cancel yourself, whenever you like, on your account page. Studio then keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for, and is not charged again. There is no refund for the rest of a period you have already paid, unless the law where you live says otherwise.

If a payment fails, Stripe tries the card again for a few days. Studio stays open during those tries. If it still does not go through, the subscription ends and Studio closes; the free tool keeps working.

You can delete your account from your account page. That removes what we keep about you here. A running subscription does not stop by itself, so cancel it first if you want the payments to stop.

09Third-party services

Lumen Tool relies on trusted third-party services for hosting, infrastructure, payment, email and analytics. The tool is hosted on OVHcloud servers in the United States, Coolify is used to put updates live, Stripe handles payments and subscriptions, and Resend delivers sign-in and account mail.

Personal data may therefore be transferred to and processed in the United States, as explained in the Privacy & cookies and Data processing pages.

Privacy-restricted Google Analytics measures basic website use by default and is configured to avoid advertising features and precise location. You can turn it off at any time on the Privacy & cookies page.

10Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lumen Tool is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or business losses, including loss of profit, loss of data, lost opportunities or project delays arising from use of the website or tool.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

11Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Lumen Tool develops, especially when new features or paid plans are introduced. The latest version will be published on this page, and the date above shows when it was last changed.
