What Color Lab is

Studio 06 · Color Lab is the studio for colored light on a full model. Where Photo Lighting works on a head, Color Lab puts a whole figure on a floor in front of a background, so you see how colored light falls across the body, the floor and the wall behind it.

Who it is for

Use it to plan a shoot with gels or colored LED light, to try a color scheme before you rent the gear, or to study the colored shadows where two lights overlap. Painters and illustrators use it the same way for mood and color studies of a full figure.

Getting started

Open Color Lab from the Studio home. The scene starts with a ready-made colored setup, so there is something to look at straight away. Pick a light in the Lights panel to change it, or add one with Add light. Then read on: lights and colors, placing lights and looks, saving and export.

Good to know

Color Lab shows direct light, colored shadows and projected patterns in real time. Light does not bounce off the walls or the floor, and the models have one surface, so skin and clothing react to light in the same way. It is a reliable guide to direction, color and shadow, not a final photograph.
