What Set Builder is

Studio 05 · Set Builder is a full 3D studio room. You place models, continuous lights and studio flash, modifiers, backdrops, furniture and props, look at the result through a camera with real aperture, shutter speed and ISO, and print the floor plan for the shoot.

It is made for planning: try a setup before you build it, show a client or assistant what you have in mind, or work out where everything has to stand in a room. Studio 05 is in beta and still growing.

The screen

The Library on the left holds everything you can place, plus Presets and the daylight outside. The 3D view in the middle is your set. The Inspector on the right shows the settings of whatever you select. The toolbar at the top switches between 3D, Top View and Camera view, and holds the room choice, Undo and Redo, Print setup, Help and Save to the Archive.

Library, Inspector, Camera monitor and Freezes show or hide those panels, so you can give the 3D view more room.

Rooms

Pick a room with the room menu at the top. Each room has its own windows, pillars and daylight. Walls and pillars are solid: objects stop against them. New scene clears the room you are in so you can start fresh. You can undo it.

A good workflow

Start with a preset or a few objects from the Library. Move them into place, set up the lights or the flash and pose your model. Check the frame with Camera view, then print the plan and save it.

Studio 05 works best with a mouse and keyboard on a desktop or laptop with a recent graphics card.
