Skin tone and backdrop
Skin Tone
Skin Tone changes the tone of the 3D head. This helps you judge how lighting may behave across different subjects. It is a visual reference, not a perfect real-world skin simulation.
Backdrop
Backdrop changes the background from dark to light, from black through several greys to white. This makes it easier to judge separation, contrast, mood, and how visible edge lighting becomes.
It is a visual background choice. The backdrop is not a studio wall that throws light back onto the face, so nothing here tells you how much light a real backdrop would reflect or bounce.
On a head that comes with its own painted skin, the skin tone buttons are switched off while that head is shown in its realistic form. Switch that head to Neutral and the skin tones work again.
